Summer time is ideal for those who eat healthy and whose daily menu is based on large amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables.
But are you sure you know how to choose the right fruits?
In this article we will present useful advices on how to purchase the right fruits and how to store the commonest seasonal vegetable!
1. Eggplants
Purchase: Eggplants should be hard and have a shiny crust, no scratches. The shorter fruits, with a height of 7.5 to 15 centimeters are a bit bitter. The ripe ones are soft to the touch.
Storage: Cook the eggplants right after purchasing or the next day. After 2 days these vegetables will change their taste.
2. Young potato
Purchase: Avoid potatoes with green spots because these spots are a sign of toxins.
Storage: Store the potatoes in cold and dark area, with a temperature from 0 to 10 degrees Celsius.
3. Peppers
Purchase: Always choose the ones without scratches and with shine.
Storage: Peppers should be stored in the refrigerator. Green peppers will be good to consume even after 7 days, while orange and red ones up to 5 days.
4. Zucchini
Purchase: Avoid purchasing big zucchini because they are most likely to be more watery and harder. Always choose young zucchini up to 15 cm of height.
Storage: Store this vegetable in plastic bag with holes and keep them unwashed in the refrigerator. This way they will be good to eat even after a whole week.
5. Cucumbers
Purchase: the best cucumbers are heavy, solid and with dark green color. Smaller and softer cucumbers are bitter and not as tasty.
Storage: Store the cucumbers in the refrigerator in plastic foil. This way they will be good to consume after seven days.
