Did you know that over 184 000 people die due to carbonated and sweetened beverages?
The first extensive research on the impact of these drinks on mortality and health complications states that these drinks are associated with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer.
As stated, as a consequence of fizzy drinks, 184 thousand people died from diabetes. Among consumers of sugary soft drinks, there were 45 thousand cases of cardiovascular disease and 6,450 cancer related deaths registered.
“Planetary priority” should be quitting drinking sweetened carbonated drinks and cold teas, says study author Dariush Mozaffarian of University of Massachusetts.
The data is obtained from monitoring the habits of 611 971 persons in the period between from 1980 to 2010 in 51 countries worldwide.
Freshly squeezed fruit juices were excluded from the research.
